Newport Fall Festival
Autumn is a special time in the Northeast Kingdom, and what better way to celebrate turning of the leaves than with an old-fashioned festival. Downtown Newport's fall events are hosted in collaboration with several community organizations including Parks & Recreation, the North Country Chamber of Commerce, Newport Renaissance Corporation, and several local vendors and organizations. The weekend includes a craft fair, quilt show, photo contest, farmers market, duck regatta, author visits and book signings, live entertainment and of course, a Chilifest contest that will warm your inner leaf peeper!
Gateway Craft Fair & Fall Photo Contest
Local artists, crafters and artisans are invited to display their products alongside the beautiful colors of Lake Memphremagog. 20+ vendors including painters, jewelers, seamstresses, sculptors and more make this show a crowd pleaser for all ages. In the lobby of the Gateway Center, visitors will find a collection of Northeast Kingdom prints by local photographers capturing the splendor of the season. Ribbons are awarded annually in three creative catagories including "Home Sweet Home," "Living Color," and "Vermont Made." As always, voting for the "People's Choice Award" is open until 2pm, so be sure to cast a vote for your favorite photo! The winner will be announced at 3PM.

North Country Quilter's Show
Biannually at the Fall Festival, the North Country Quilter's Guild hosts a diverse show of all things quilt! In 2016, the Municipal Gym will fill with handmade display quilts and exhibits showing many unique projects by members. The event features hands-on applique demonstrations and an introduction to the art of stitching. Quilt show vendors provide a variety of sewing supplies for purchase, door prizes and a raffle filled with hand crafted treasures perfect for quilters and non-quilters alike! Admission benefits Guild charity projects including "Comfort Quilts" for needy children and seniors in the area.
Farmers Market & Community Garden
The Newport Farmer's Market is located next to the band stand in Gardner Park and features a variety of fresh farm produce and products. On any given day, you can find a diverse collection of Vermont Made products including jams and jellies, American Girl doll clothes, natural soaps and lotions, caricatures, relishes, maple syrup and muchmore! The farm stand opens each May and runs 9-2PM, every Wednesday and Saturday.
11th Annual Chamber Chilifest
Vermont's North Country Chamber brings to the table the tastiest part of the Fall Festival...CHILIFEST! This fun family-friendly event boasts great chili, live entertainment and something for all "tastes." Cooking chili is an art and with over a dozen competing businesses and individuals, visitors are sure to find something they like! Tasting begins at 11:00AM on the Emory Hebard State Building lawn near the waterfront gazebos on Main Street. Spoons are $5 each with competition and voting closing at 2:30PM. Cash prizes for the "People's Choice Award," and the best decorated booth! To enter the competition, call (802)334-7782 for details.
Newport is for Book Lovers
Author events abound in Newport! Downtown Renaissance Corporation has gathered a series of Vermont and Canadian authors to visit locations all over town for talks, readings and book signings on Saturday. Children and adults will love the growing list of authors including Catherine Holm, Tanya Sousa, Patty Oliver, Lynda Graham Barber, Jerry Johnson and more! For a full schedule and listing of locations, visit Newport is for Book Lovers on Facebook.
Rotary Duck Regatta
Sunday at the Fall Festival goes to the ducks! An annual fundraising effort established by the Rotary Club of Newport unleashes a flock of over 500 rubber duckies into Memphremagog near the bandstand in Gardner Park. Leading up to the event, community members can purchase raffle tickets from a local Rotarian for a chance to enter a duck into the contest. On race day, sponsored ducks are hoisted up by crane and lowered into the Clyde River to start a wild, rainbow race down stream toward the bay in Gardner Park. If you're a lucky duck, your number might be first to enter the bay! If not, at least your donation contributes to some very worthwhile community projects with the Newport Rotary Club.
