Gardner Memorial Park
Centrally located, Gardner Park is one of the most well known parks in the city. This 20 acre space is home to softball tournaments, community concerts, farmers market, July 4th Celebration, Winter Festival, Spring Carnival and much more! Adjacent to the mouth of the Clyde River, the park is a local hot spot for fishing, kayaking and picnicking. During the summer, the "Skate Shack" and neighboring snack bar offer concessions during peak use times. The park is a popular picnic destination for many families with access to public grills, pavilion, and playground. By winter, the park is transformed into a fully functional ice skating facility.
Winter Ice Rinks
From December to March, locals and visitors flock to Gardner Park and the "Skate Shack" to enjoy beautiful ice rinks, free skate rentals, hot cocoa and restrooms. The park features 3 separate ice surfaces connected by frozen skating paths. The contained Hockey Rink is open for casual stick and puck while the Rec Rink on the south end offers public skating. Weather permitting, open areas and trails on the lake are also maintained for natural skating in the bay. During the winter, the rinks are open Monday-Friday 3:00 - 9:00PM, and weekends Noon-9:00PM.
Athletic Fields & Courts

Farmers Market & Community Garden
The Community Garden located behind the Gardner Park bandstand is one of 6 plots managed by the Fresh Start Community Farm program in Newport. Gardens are maintained by volunteers and yeild over 3,000 lbs of food for the community each year. Some vegetables are donated to food shelves and some are sold at the local Farmer's Market to raise money for the gardens.
The Newport Farmer's Market, located next to the Gardner Park bandstand features a variety of produce, goods and handmade crafts from local vendors around the area. The market opens in May runs 9:00-2:00PM, every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer.
In 2013, after 7 years of fundraising and community support, the old, outdated skate park in Gardner was replaced with a brand new, state-of-the-art concrete facility. The park spans 30 feet from bank to barrier and has features for all abilities including vert, transition and street style skating.
