Original Music Showcase #3: Presented by the AV Club. Saturday, May 26 at the Gateway Center from 8pm to 11pm for all ages. $5 cover charge with proceeds to benefit the creation of a mobile performing arts center. This event is sponsored by MOO92 and Newport Parks & Recreation.
Disc Golf Tournament: June 2nd at 10am at the new Disc Golf Course at Prouty Beach. $5/person. Boys and Girls Divisions; youth (ages 8-12), junior (ages 13-17), and adults (ages 18+). Prizes for the winners, plus a closest to the target and longest drive competition. Call 334-6345 to register.
Independence Celebration Music Festival: Wednesday July 4th at Gardner Memorial Park in downtown Newport. 4pm until 10pm. Music, Kingdom Bounce & Slides, Food, and more. Fireworks at 9:45pm. FREE to all ages. Call 334-6345 for details.
Memphremagog Cruises: Jazz Cruise - June 28th at 6pm. History Cruise - August 11th at 11:30am. Aboard the Newport Belle $25/person. Join us aboard the Newport Belle as we cruise the American side of Memphremagog. Food, drinks and entertainment will be supplied by us, adult beverages are supplied by you. The Jazz Cruise will feature an outstanding live Jazz compilation that sets the mood as we tour the lake. The History Cruise will feature a guided tour that points out the places of interest along the lake. Both cruises are fund raisers for the ice rink in Gardner Park. Get your boarding passes early as there is limited seating available.
Gateway Summer Concert Series: June 15 - Mona Mi, July 13 - Classic Rewind, August 3 - Starline Rythm Boys, August 17 - Classic Rewind. All shows begin at 7pm. FREE at the Gateway Center. Nothing beats great music, great company and great sights at the Gateway Summer Concert Series. Bring your own beverages and come on down to the waterfront and boogie with your friends starting at 7pm. There is no better way to spend a Friday evening. Concessions available, donations appreciated.
Discount Ticket Program: Discounted tickets are currently being offered through the Newport Parks & Recreation Department for Six Flags New England-$33, Great Escape-$30, and Bromley Adventure Park-$26. Tickets are available in the Newport City Clerk's Office. These discounted tickets are far less expensive than the normal gate price and are better than any other offer available because it benefits parks & recreation.
Farmer's Market: Saturdays May 12th to October 13th and Wednesdays May 30th to October 10th from 9am to 2pm on the Causeway in Gardner Park. Fresh fruits, vegetables, homemade goods, gifts, meats and more. Credit/Debit Cards accepted.
Prouty Beach & Newport City Dock Open For Business: Prouty Beach and the Newport City Dock are now officially open for business. New at Prouty Beach is a 9-hole disc golf course and swimming beach. Youth Tennis Camps I & II: Camp I June 18-22 & Camp II June 25-29. Ages 9-12 - All abilities. Residents $30/week or $50 for both - Non-residents $45/week or $75 for both. Learn to play tennis from the best instructor this side of Memphremagog, Gary Atchinson, at the recently resurfaced tennis courts located at beautiful Prouty Beach. Great for beginners and experts alike.
Tennis Lessons: June 25-August 10. All ages all abilities. Under 9 - $20/resident or $30/non-resident, Ages 10-17 - $25/resident or $38/non-resident, Adults - $30/resident or $45/non-resident, Family - $70/residents or $105/non-residents. Half Price Camping - Newport Residents: June 1-3 at Prouty Beach there will be half price camping for all Newport City Residents. Learn to Sail Camps: Youth (8-12) Camp June 23 & 24, Adult (18+) Camp July 14 & 15, Junior (13-17) Camp July 28 & 29
$40/person. Learn to sail in a weekend! Learn how to rig a boat, speak the language and sail from the best sailing instructors this side of Memphremagog. The camp will be held at the newly updated sailing facility at Prouty Beach. Participants who successfully complete the program will earn a "sailing card", which enables bearers of that card the opportunity to rent our sail boats for use on your own time. Or, bearers of that card can trade volunteer time for sailing time. This camp is the perfect way to learn a new skill that will connect you to the waters that surround our fair City. Challenger Soccer Camps - Summer 2012 - Registration is now open: British Soccer Camps provide players of all ages and abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership. Camp programs include a free ball and shirt and a free British Soccer jersey for on line registrations 45 days prior to camp! Ages 4-6, $81, 1-2:30pm. Ages 6-13, $116, 9am-12pm.
