Newport Winter Festival
The Winter Festival is a nostalgic visit from the past. We use the weekend to celebrate timeless Vermont traditions like snowmobiling, ice skating, broomball, and bonfires. Nothing chases the frostbite blues away like heartwarming time spent with family and friends. Whether you're participating in a tournament or simply watching, you're going to love this winter wonderland weekend.
Family Events & Fireworks at Gardner Park
As the tournaments and the day's festivities wind down, families are invited to gather at the park at 5:00PM for the Winter Festival finale. Finish the evening with free ice skating, sugar on snow, bonfire, fireworks and if nature allows, a grand, glowing Ice Castle on the point! Don't miss the hysterical Hoagie's pizza eating contest and Chuck-a-Puck 50/50 fundraiser too. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated to support the event.
Annual Guy Fortin Co-ed Broomball Tournament
In remembrance of a home-town broomball hero, this memorial tournament brings winter enthusiasts together for a fun, backyard version of a popular north country sport. With skills, smooth line changes and athletic ability optional, this casual tournament has become a favorite Winter Festival activity for residents and visitors alike. With no skates or skills required, the emphasis is placed on camaraderie and old fashioned winter fun. Players can recruit family members, colleagues and neighbors to assemble a team, and put forth an effort to win the coveted championship t-shirts and bragging rights. Whether participating or spectating, this event is sure to be a hoot. Cost is $10 per person to support Winter Festival fireworks.

Fire & Ice Snowmobile Radar Runs
The roar of high-speed engines resonates from Lake Memphremagog during the radar runs outside the Eastside Restaurant during Winter Festival. This one day competition showcases local riders competing for speed down a thousand foot track on the lake. With categories for all ages, some of the fastest sleds have traveled over 130 miles per hour. Winners from a variety of age divisions take home trophies and celebrate with an after-race banquet inside the restaurant. Registration at 9AM, runs begin at 11AM. For more information, contact Ken Wells at 802-673-7151 or 802-754-1053.
Snow-MORE SOFTBALL Tournament
A snow covered spin on a favorite summer activity in Gardner Park! Kylie Wright and Carley Giroux are two North Country High School Juniors traveling to Italy to play for America's basketball team in 2017. This one-pitch, wood bat tournament is a fundraiser to support their trip. Bats are provided. Double elimination games begin at 9AM. Cost is $100 per team. For more information or to register, email Rhonda Howard. Check out the Facebook event.
Sweetheart-of-a-deal Vendor Fair

Snow King & Queen
Nothing warms your heart in the midst of winter like a few good deeds. At Winter Festival, the North Country Chamber of Commerce will take a moment to recognize two young community members who have shown good citizenship and a willingness to help others all throughout the past year. Candidates age 8-18 can be nominated by a friend, or enter themselves with a short essay describing why they should be chosen. Contest is open to Northeast Kingdom residents from Newport and surrounding towns. One Snow King and Snow Queen will be announced before the fireworks at Winter Festival and will receive a $50 gift card from the North Country Chamber of Commerce.
