Dock Hands
Seeking seasonal candidates to provide friendly, personable marina services at the Newport City Dock beginning mid-June or sooner for full or part-time applicants. The job entails duties associated with providing a positive recreational boating experience for Newport City residents and visitors. Dock Hands provide docking assistance, service boaters with pump-outs, marine fuel, merchandise and other conveniences. Public Access Greeters
Aquatic invasive plant species continue to be a great concern for Vermont and are spread by transport of watercraft, trailers, fishing and recreational equipment. Seasonal Public Access Greeters spend their summer educating lake visitors about invasive species, providing courtesy watercraft inspections and washing vessels to help stop the spread of species. The Newport City Dock is seeking full or part-time seasonal candidates ready to initiate friendly, educational discussions with City Dock visitors beginning in June. The Newport Parks & Recreation department has openings for seasonal full and part-time laborers assist with care of the athletic facilities at Gardner Park and maintenance in the campground at Prouty Beach. The positions require some weekend and evening hours during the months of June-September. Qualified applicants must be customer-service oriented, have a driver's license or reliable transportation, interest in working outside and familiarity with tools and basic lawn equipment. Coaches, Instructors & Event Staff
Newport Parks & Recreation hosts a variety of youth, teen and adult programs - many of which begin with community members who have a special skill or hobby they'd like to share with local participants through workshops, clinics or a mini-camp setting. Examples of programs we've hosted in the past include: fishing camp, soccer camp, jewelry making, sailing, Lego camp, field hockey camp, youth track & field, art camp, skating lessons, drama and dance programs and many more! These programs are versatile in their schedules/time commitment and can be designed for any age group. These activities act as wonderful feeder programs for local sports teams and clubs, and we're always looking for qualified leaders who have a passion to share! Annual Egg Hunts | Annually held in the Saturday before Easter
Volunteers needed to set-up, decorate, hide eggs, run craft activities or games for children, hand out prizes and break-down following the event at Prouty Beach in Newport. Time commitment is 6:30-10PM on Friday for the Glow-in-the-Dark Hunt, and 10:00-1:00PM on Saturday for the traditional Egg Hunt. Contact us by mid March if you can help!
Pumpkin Palooza | Annually held the Saturday before Halloween
Volunteers needed in costume to help run games and give out prizes during the annual Halloween carnival at the Municipal Gym in Newport. Also need assistance with event set-up and break-down, and crossing guards during trick-or-treating. Time commitment is 11:00-4:00PM. Contact us by early October if you can help!
Pomerleau Party | Annually held in December
Volunteers needed to help disburse and organize gifts and meals that will be provided from the East Side Restaurant, as well as drivers to help deliver these gifts to the families in our area. Time commitment varies from 9am-5PM. Contact us by mid November if you can help!

NEWPORT HARBOR COMMISSION
The Harbor Commission serves as an advisory board to the Newport City Council. The duties of the commission is to hear appeals, revocation proceedings, consider waiver requests, recommend Ordinance amendments and proposed rules and regulations pertaining to Mooring Management zones, conduct studies and make recommendations to the City Council on water use and the conditions of navigable waters within the City limits. The Harbor Commission also recommends the Harbormaster for appointment annually. Representatives from neighboring marinas, yacht clubs, commercial marina industry or other organizations are encouraged to serve on the Commission as long as such members do not exceed two from each respective party. This is a volunteer Commission, members are not paid for their time.
Membership:
The Harbor Commission consists of 5 – 9 members appointed by the City Council for 1-2 year terms. The meetings are held as necessary, about 1-2 times yearly in the Council Room of the Municipal Building. The Chair may call for special meetings as needed. Members are appointed by the Newport City Council annually at the first regular meeting after Town Meeting Day in March. Interested applicants can submit a letter of interest outlining their experience, qualifications and desire for a seat before the annual rolling deadline of March 1. Letters can be dropped off in person at the Parks & Recreation office or emailed to [email protected].
