Gardner Memorial Park
Centrally located, Gardner Park is one of the most well known parks in the city. This 20 acre space is home to softball tournaments, community concerts, farmers market, July 4th Celebration, Winter Festival, and much more! Adjacent to the mouth of the Clyde River, the park is a local hot spot for fishing, kayaking and picnicing. The park is a popular picnic destination for many families with access to picnic tables, a pavilion, and playground. By winter, the park is transformed into a fully functional ice skating facility. If you have any large group outings such as school trips or birthday parties, we don't formally reserve the playground but we do ask that you call the office ahead of time so we can make sure our facilities are ready and that there is adequate space for any other groups wanting to use the park on that same date.
Playground and Splash Pad Update
As of May 22 we have started the remediation of the soil in the playground location. The project was delayed for many reasons, the main reasons being the fact that the site was an old dump and sits on a flood plain. Both issues caused some difficulties with environmental reviews and corrective action plans. With that all said, we have finally gotten to the point where we can start the project. The playground equipment is being delivered and the public works department is remediating the contaminated soil to prep the site for the build. The ground cover will be engineered wood fiber throughout the playground area. The splash pad portion of the project caused some major difficulties due to the fact that the area is a flood plain. We have found a splash pad that would work in the location where the pump and pad all lie above grade, which would allow us easier access to repair and disassemble when floods are coming through the park. All the raised funds from the community have been placed in a project account for safe keeping and has not been used on other projects. We thank you all and appreciate your patience with this long ongoing project. ![]() Boat Rentals/ All Boat and Bike Rentals have moved to Prouty Beach Campground
