Gardner Memorial Park
Centrally located, Gardner Park is one of the most well known parks in the city. This 20 acre space is home to softball tournaments, community concerts, farmers market, July 4th Celebration, Winter Festival, and much more! Adjacent to the mouth of the Clyde River, the park is a local hot spot for fishing, kayaking and picnicing. The park is a popular picnic destination for many families with access to picnic tables, a pavilion, and playground. By winter, the park is transformed into a fully functional ice skating facility. If you have any large group outings such as school trips or birthday parties, we don't formally reserve the playground but we do ask that you call the office ahead of time so we can make sure our facilities are ready and that there is adequate space for any other groups wanting to use the park on that same date.
Athletic Fields & Courts
Gardner Memorial Park contains five softball/baseball fields, a soccer field, basketball court, pickleball court and roller hockey rink. With evening lighting covering most of the park, Gardner is a great location for local and regional tournaments. Gardner park has been home to the Vermont State Men's & Women's Softball Championships dating back to 1976. Community Concerts & Farmers Market
The Newport Area Concert Band plays every Thursday night during the summer at 7:30 p.m. at the Bandstand. On rainy days concerts will be held in the Municipal Building gymnasium. Join the crowd in Gardner Park for some great music and company - events are free and for all ages. The Newport Farmer's Market, located next to the Gardner Park bandstand features a variety of produce, goods and handmade crafts from local vendors around the area. The market opens in May runs 9:00-2:00PM, every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer.
Newport Skatepark
In 2013, after 7 years of fundraising and community support, the old, outdated skate park in Gardner was replaced with a brand new, state-of-the-art concrete facility. The park spans 30 feet from bank to barrier and has features for all abilities including vert, transition and street style skating.
