Phase Two: WATERFRONT ACCESS & RINK IMPROVEMENTS

Picture
In keeping with Newport's broader theme of "look to the lake," the Waterfront & Downtown Master Plan recommends aesthetic and functional improvements to the shoreline at Gardner Park to encourage more recreational use of the lake following completion of Phase One. Proposed ideas include additional dock space, a new rental kiosk for stand-up paddle boards, peddle boats and kayaks and ecological landscaping near the water's edge. Upgrades the the ice rink is also planned during phase two to remove tall ice rink boards and replace them with low-profile seasonal fixtures to increase shoreline visibility during spring, summer and fall months. There has been discussion among community members about the desire to add a roof over the existing hockey rink to accommodate a longer skating season and better ice conditions and a possible covered turf/event space for use during the spring, fall and winter months.

If you're interested in participating in the development of Phase Two, please contact the Parks & Recreation Office at (802)334-6345!
