TO ENSURE FRESHNESS & STABILITY, DO NOT CARVE PUMPKINS MORE THAN 7 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE CONTEST!
1. Drop off the carved pumpkins at Pomerleau Park on Saturday, October 23th between 2:00 and 4:00 sharp. No late entries will be accepted. All entries must include an entry form or note with: Participant's name, age, business/organization (if applicable), name of pumpkin and email address (to be notified for winning).
2. Pumpkins may be stenciled, carved, sculpted, painted, airbrushed or decorated. All decorations must be fastened very securely. Entries must be free-standing or attached to a piece of plywood or foam core so they can be easily transported and displayed.
3. Providing your own votive is appreciated, but not required. No “flame” candles allowed. Colored lights are OK.
4. All entries must be family friendly. Scary designs are fine, but please do not incorporate any political, violent or suggestive elements - these displays will not be accepted.
5. Each entry will be given a number. Judges will not be privy to any contestant information including the carver's name. Decisions made by judges are final.
6. First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded for each age category. First place prize is $100 in Downtown Dollars, second place is $50 in Downtown Dollars, and third place is $25 in Downtown Dollars, provided by Community National Bank. Downtown Dollars are certificates that can be used like cash at Newport area businesses. Downtown Dollar prizes will be awarded for a business/organization category as well. Plus, $100 in Downtown Dollars for the People's Choice.
7. By entering into the contest, contestants give authorization to use photos of the pumpkin/contestants and names of the contestants for use on our website, social media and news through media outlets.
8. Although "Pomerleau Park Pumpkin Palooza" will have periodic security, we cannot guarantee that pumpkins won't be damaged, lost or stolen while on display.
9. Pumpkins can be picked up by Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Pomerleau Park by 8PM. Any pumpkins not retrieved will be composted.

With the help of many volunteers, civic organizations and businesses they are able to place about 15,000 wreaths throughout Orleans County. Halloween Monster Bash
In place of our usual Monster Bash, check out our new family event PUMPKINS IN POMERLEAU PARK, hosted in partnership with the Newport Recreation Committee.
Mummies and deadies, boos and ghouls! Creep over to Newport for tricks, treats, games and activities for the whole family! Each year, Newport Parks & Recreation and a group of local organizations combine powers to host an Annual Monster Bash party on the Saturday before Halloween.
Costume Contest
Honorary Monster Bash judges will be wandering Main Street looking for the cutest, creepiest, most creative and best group costume at the event. Finalists will be invited to a goulish fashion at 2:00PM in the Municipal Gym for a chance to win top honor for the year! Trick-or-Treating & Wagon Rides
A group of Monster Merchants on Main Street are excited to haunt with all the ghosts, ghouls and goblins scaring about town for the Monster Bash! During event hours from 1:00-3:00PM, visit any merchant with a "Trick-or-Treat" sign in the window for something sweet, a game or even a Halloween craft! Help support this event by donating to the Halloween Candy Drop. Hay wagon rides pick-up periodically at the Municipal Building parking lot for free loops around the waterfront during the event. Say hello to Newport firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel as they give an up close and personal look at the City's big trucks and vehicles. Staff will be on hand to greet families and hand out treats in the Municipal parking lot during the Monster Bash from 1:00-3:00PM Trunk-or-Treat
Northeast Kingdom Car Club is based out of Newport and geared toward the younger generation of car enthusiast. Each year they organize local meets and race events at tracks all over New England. During Monster Bash, members gather to show off their cars with a festive Trunk-or-Treat event in the Municipal Building Parking lot. Halloween Carnival
Following the Ghost Walk costume parade, join us in the Newport Municipal Gym for spooktacular games like Monster Match, Witch Pitch and Give Frank a Heart! Most activities are geared toward children age 3-10, but all are welcome to participate and fill their treat bag with fun prizes. Visit the picture booth for a memorable keepsake photo opportunity with our local photographer and keep an eyeball out hilarious family contests like the doughnut on a string competition or parent-child mummy challenge! For the younger crowd, check out the Haunted Hallways of CCV on the ground floor of the Emory Hebard State Building from 11:00-1:00PM. Move from classroom to classroom and with a knock on the door, you'll find a different surprise every time! Community College of Vermont is providing free snacks, candy and hot apple cider, coloring activities for the kids and plenty of boo-tiful jack-o-lanterns! This year CCV will be bringing back the SCARY EXIT for people 10 yrs & older. |
